Hi John.... I am assuming that you entered your information manually into the Tribal website? 1. Sign in at the website 2. Click on the FILES tab. 3. You'll now see a blue link that says Download YOUR SAVED TREE....click on this link. 4. A box now appears, click on SAVE. 5. A larger box appears.....this is where you can choose where on your computer you wish to download the .ged file to. At the top of the box, where it says LOOK IN: you can click on the small arrow at the end of this field and you'll be able to scroll your computer and choose the location. 6. Once you have the download location on your computer picked, click on SAVE and the .ged file will download onto your PC. In order for you to be able to open and read this file from your PC you need to have a family tree program already on your PC. If you don't have one there are plenty of free ones on the internet....my personal favorite, GENOPRO. Any family tree maker is capable of reading this file. You can send your .ged files to others (they'll have no problem opening it if they have a family tree program on their own PC) and you can upload it to sites like GR with no problem as you don't need any special program to transfer a .ged file from your PC to a website.....you just won't be able to open and view the file without a program capable of opening the file. As for your tree.....may I suggest, if you haven't already, create your tree on your PC, back it up regularly off your PC, and then upload the information from your PC to sites like TRIBAL and GR. If you're counting on these sites to "keep" your invaluable information you could end up losing everything if the site should go out of business and offline. Give me a shout if I can help in any way......happy hunting! Judy :) PS.....when you download your tree off of Tribal or GR, it's already in a .ged format so there is nothing more for you to do to the file once it's downloaded.

You must first download or export a file in the GEDCOM format from Tribal pages to your own PC. Once you have the GEDCOM file on your PC you can go to the Genese reunited page that says Import/Export. There is a link which deletes your existing tree (aprt from yourself) which you must press first. Once it says that that is complete and you juts have yourself left in your tree, click on the import gedcom buttom in genes reunited, use the browse button to selct the gedcom file on your hard disk, then press import. after a few minutes it will upload to gense reunited. Seems like they have been making changes on TB but goto edit then files and there is an option to backup. Then import the gedcom in GC (on left). Bob

I have all my ancesters on Tribal Pages and would like to transfer them to Genes Reunited. I understand I can do this as a "Gedcom" File. Can some kind person explain in simple terms how I can do this. I have some entries on here at the moment which I understand I must delete. Thanks in advance. John ( an aged Gf of many)
