Hi All Im a member on the Ancestry web site. I have been looking at the census records for Rachel Turner for 1891. Only one suitable candidate appears for age and location. However here is the riddle. I have no mothers details for Rachel i have however a copy of her marriage certificate from 1892 age 22 spinster residing at Dover Street, Boothtown Father frederick William Turner occupation Cart wright. On the census however for the family i have found there is no father listed the head of the household is listed as a widow?! Is it possible i have found the correct family and the marriage cert is wrong in not showing her father as deceased? or that i have the wrong family due to a transcription error. Sorry if this is garbled. Any help would be apprecitated im still reasonably new to this and Turner is a comman name in yorkshire! I can say that as i too am a Turner!! Althiough on a different family line to this one. Thanks for your help Kelly xxx |

it is possible for the father not to be listed as deceased on the marrage certificate. try looking on the 1881 census to see what you can find |

If she was just asked her father's name and occupation she may have given it whithout thinking to say that he was dead, and if she married in a large urban parish, or somewhere away from home the vicar wouldn't have known to put deceased. |

Hi All Thanks for your replys. With regards to the 1881 census this isnt complete on ancestry for west Yorkshire i only wish it was.......... It would solve so many other mysterys!!! To be honest i hadnt thought that she may not have been asked to confirm if he was still alive. The more i look at the info the more convinced i am its right. You know what they say though never ssume anything!! Kelly xxx |
