Hi Does anyone know were I would look for information on an orphanage? The person who I am researching was in this orphanage in 1901 in Devon, Any help at pointing me in the right direction will be gratefully recieved Neil

Neil, My grandfather was in an Industrial Home for 9 years - it was like a Borstal/Young Offenders Institute . Google will give you a list.

Its very likely that the county records office would have information, maybe even admission records for the home. Good hunting Judith

Hi Helen, I am affraid i dont know the name of this orphanage or school which doesnt help, The information I have is that it was in the village of Merton in Devon & it was for girls, this information I got from the 1901 censes, Apparently the Devon offices are in the process of moving to new premises so no help there, The only other info I got was from a library in Devon & that was it was listed in kellys directory as a certified home for 25 girls supported by lady clinton, I have been trying for weeks to find any info, how do you access kellys directories? Thanks Neil
