Yes, Karen, I have two Allisons on my tree - father and son. It comes from a surname on the mother's line, several generations back. This family also used Lovel, Oman and Harrison as male forenames - jolly considerate of them too! Jay

My maiden name was allisom. I was often called Allison at school instead of Linda. Eventually I was given the nickname Alice. My dad said he was also often called Allison even though his name was Kenneth, in the Navy they would call him this or Ally. Perhaps this is how your man became known as Allison - Maybe mum was trying to preserve her families maiden name. Alice

What about the old movie star John Wayne, his name was Marilyn (sp?) and the guy who used to own the chippy down the road from us was called Beverly ! Cruel moms I say ;) Sioux

Not an uncommon occurence. In my village, past census have men called Dickinson Stonehouse, Allison Halder, Johnston Readman. The first names tended to be pre-marriage surnames from several female generations previously
