His marrage certificate has fathers name James Taylor who had died by the marriage in August 1872.

a) How do you know his dad's name was James Taylor? b) don't send off for anything on spec - always ask the GRO to check, so if you know his mum's maiden name use that as a checking point. nell

I can not find my gt gt grandads birth. He is George Taylor born 1848 going by marriage cert.and according to 1881 born Ryde,1891 Newport, and 1901 Cowes 1871 he is living at West Street where he lived in other following census, with Jane his widowed mum and four brothers. But in 1861 he is, going by the names being the same and ages matching at Newchurch, Ryde, again with Jane who was widowed but is down as George Hollis born Carisbrook. I sent for the only George Taylor for the right birth date but it had the wrong mum and dad. His dad was James Taylor .Checking on George Hollis in the 1881 census is another person. Checked I.O.w. fhs and freebmd, ancestry and 1837 online. Is the only answer to fill in what I think is right and send off hoping for the best?
