If he was born a lot before 1840 (ie before 1 July 1837) he won't have a civil birth cert. Without a birthplace you can't find his baptism record. The marriage record may not have been transcribed yet and may not be in the GRO records, though it might exist in the local register office, if you knew where that was. If its any consolation I've been looking for a marriage within a time frame of June 1879-Mar 1881 [strongly suspect it was sometime in 1880] without success. What did he do for a living? nell

How can my gt gt grandfather be born (no record) Marry (no record) father a child ( name, address, wife and occupation on birth certificate) and die (no record) No record on census. Wife remarries. I have searched for him for just over three years now and that is all I have on him. He's Alfred Clouder. Born before 1840. Married Louisa Smither in c1860. Possibly in Kent. Son Alfred John Clouder b1864 at 2 Church Street, Holy Trinity, Minories, Whitechapel. Wife remarried in 1869. Any ideas would be appreciated before I go totally nuts. Thanks. Sue.
