I would never rely on the GenesReunited copy as the master copy, it is far too crude and no provision for things like source information. The online trees at my MyFamily site are far superior but it costs more. Download a free program like PAF or use an unregistered copy of LEGACY. Try and get in the habit of putting every scrap of information in the database along with source. You can then always export to GEDCOM so it can be loaded into another program. Every so often I export a copy of my tree to a new GEDCOM. Then import that into a blank file, tag all LIVING people and delete them - except myself of course! I have a look through tidying up some details then export again to a GEDCOM which I then use on GenesReunited. Martin

As duiscussed above , it is a two stage process. First you need to click on Export and export your file to your PC as a gedcom file. If you have a large tree it may take quite a while if you are not using broadband. You then save it to a folder on your PC's hard disk. If you have some Family Tree software on your PC such as Family Tree Maker or simialr programs then you can open that profram and import the file into that program. there are a number of free family tree software programs available on the net, or alternatively you can buy one for £20-30. If you ae serious about researching your family tree then having a program on your computer is certainly the way to go. Its much easier to input data etc. Most programs will enable you to export your file in a gedcom format. This is the lingua franca of the family tree world. Once you ave a gedcom file most onlone geneology sites will allow you toupload this file onto their site.

hi jan just click on export your tree then click save to file, the gedfile will be your surname plus your membership number ie smith123456, then you can import it into another site if you want to, I have mine on tribalpages which is a very good site, it displays your tree beautifully and you can add photos. jenny x

Jan I'm useless with anything to do with the P.C. too, usually get my kids to do things for me. But I know if you go to Help/FAQ's on the left hand side of the screen it tells you how to do it there. Hope that's helpful Christine

I have my family tree on this site and do not have one anywhere else. I would like to Export my tree to another site, but have no idea how. My children disappear when I ask for help or just say they don't know how to do it. Where can I find out HOW.
