Hiya Thanks everyone for their comments. Crista, I dont think he was in the war, on the census records I have found for him (1871 - 1901) he was a wood dealer and died at the right old age of 89. I will add this marriage to the long list of certificates that I need, and when it comes to the top of my list I will speak to the Hastings & Rother register office and see what they can tell me as theyve been helpful on previous occasions. I had something similar happen. It turned out the actual 'marriages' were three weeks apart, the first one was really the banns notice but had been recorded as a marriage in error. My two were in different Parishes, as the banns were read in both. And there was me thinking they'd got married twice, in two different places, to please both thier mothers who didn't get on!

The page numbers are different so I don't think it is a FreeBMD mistranscription. I can think of a few explanations: 1) Coincidence that two couples with same names maried that year. 2) The vicar or registrar got confused and submitted the information twice for same marriage. 3) The couple married twice - perhaps one in a register office the second in church, or one in CofE one in RC church? Hiya I have just received a birth certificate for my gg Nan (born 1863), her parents were Edgar Edwards and Mary Head. I have just done a search on Freebmd for their marriage and two entries have come up with both of their names - April to June 1849 Battle 7 397 and July to Sept 1849 Battle 7 371?? Why would they be on two entries for different quarters? Karen
