On my birth certificate there is just my mothers name, although my mother lived with my father then, and two years later he appears on my baptism certificate. My father was already maried to someone else, but I am sure my mother married him. Is there any way of finding out. We are talking about the 1950s

Margaret If your parents married, it would be in the GRO indexes which are available to search on microfiche at various libraries/records offices. If they were married when you were born your father would be named on the cert. Were you known by your mother's surname or your father's when you were a child? nell

Hi Nell I was bought up in my fatheres surname, had no idea they never married until I got a copy of my birth certficate when I was older.
