Hi Heather...Thanks for your remarks. If looks like I've got to carry on and get bad eyesight!! I was hoping there would be shortcuts but I think I'm being a bit too hopeful. Thanks very much anyway Pam

I would just say that when I have asked for info from a particular source, eg census often I have come up with zilch BUT if I just enter the details and ask for anything up will come the right person in the right census. Cant understand why this happens but it does. Does mean trawling through hundreds and hundreds of names unfortunately. Try with just the year of a marriage/birth/death or census if you know it and then if it doesnt come up try the blanket request. I wouldnt worry about any other places lived, just leave it as all unless you know they only lived in one area. When they lived, if you know a birth year enter that and just add 80 years or so if you dont know death date. That should cover bmd and censuses! There are much more experienced people on here who may know shortcuts for you!

On Ancestry, if I want to look up a particular time of an ancestors life, i.e. a marriage or a particular census do I put in the date of that time or event, or do I put the date of when the person was born right up to their death. Also, it says 'where did this person live?' Thats a little difficult if they've lived in several places. Would appreciate any replies. Pam
