Hi John, I agree. Even though the automatic request has been stopped, I have received a couple of such requests this week. There is no way of knowing who you are corresponding with, not even a surname. You have posted this message, and by clicking on your name I can see you have been a member since July 2003, and by the amazing number of entries on your tree, I would assume you are a genuine, eager researcher. This action will also tell me if we have been in contact previously. Equally anyone else can do the same with my name. This is not suggesting that people with few names are not genuine! There have been instances reported about 'tree poaching' and the like, strange names appearing on trees, and stalking!! I would just like to know who I am communicating with! Debbie

Yes, I dont like the tone of those automatic replies. I got one recently which just said "this is not my relative" - it sounded so harsh!!

This is due to automatic mails on GR, if you tick a box after the search for matching names an auto e-mail is sent, when sending you will assume that it will link to the person you were viewing(like it did originally)..... not the case anymore. If people tick this box, it is always a good idea to follow it up with a more detailed mail!

I find it very disturbing getting request like "Please give me permission to view your tree" Please state who you are, where you are from and what tree are you interested in. Jack Coursey Markham, Ontario, Canada.
