I have an ancestor who moved from Devon to Crich, Derbyshire between 1750 & 1770. Any idea why? Did something happen in Devon or Derbyshire around this time? Lack of work, etc? A boom in work in Derbyshire? He then settled and became a Framework Knitter along with his decendants, could there be any connection to that? Any thoughts that i could look into? Thanks, Deborah

I think its another case of people moving for work. Wonder what he was doing in Devon? Derbyshire, I guess the mines and potteries were opening up with lots of work going. Just googled for Crich : Crich ware Brown stoneware produced at Crich, Derbyshire, during the second half of the 18thC. With the expiry of Dwight's patent, numerous salt-glaze potworks sprang into business and the Peak was well served by several on its outskirts, including one at Crich. This was established by brothers John and George Dodd, later joined by another brother, Richard, a mug maker. Was your guy a potter in Devon I wonder?

I have no idea what he did in Devon as the only records i have is his birth and then subsequent marriage in Derbyshire. His fathers occupation says 'husbandsman' in Devon.
