I cant find my grandfather Stephen Harrison, age 45 on the 1901 census. Thanks to Ancestry, I found his wife of 4 weeks (Mary Louisa Harrison), with her mother Ellen Brooks and her brother Samuel Brooks living in Pilsley Derbyshire. Stephen Harrison worked in the mines, so thought maybe he worked shifts, but I still cannot find him. I dont know his Date of Birth or Place of Birth. Has anyone any ideas please? June

June I looked in the index for all Stephens aged 45 +/- a year born in Lincs. Nothing remotely like Harrison and no miners. Are you sure he was that age/did that job in 1901? nell

Do you happen to know his father's name? There were a couple of Harrison families in Sudbrook in 1861 (not Sudbrooke, that's a different place) but no sign of Stephen.

Stephen Harrison died 5th April 1927, he married 2nd March 1901, according to his marriage certificate, his father's name was Thomas, and he was 45 when he got married. Thanks for your interest. June

I don't know if this helps or not, but I have found a Steven Harrison age 40, lodging with George and Maria Osborne in Wessington, Derbyshire, he is described as a married man and born in Derbyshire. He was working in the Colliery. I know it is five years out and he was not born in the right place, but bear in mind that he was only a lodger, they would not probably know an awful lot about him - not even how to spell stephen! regards, Yvonne

Thanks Yvonne, I haven't seen that Steven Harrison, do you mind telling me whereabouts it is, because from memory (my certs. are at Gaynors at the moment) I think my mother was born in Wessington. This may be another clue as to where he was born. June

Sorry I did not get back to you last night, I went off line after posting my message to you. The Steven Harrison record that I found was on Ancestry under the 1901 census. Do you have access? If not I will get the exact details for you. Yvonne

Yvonne, I think that was probably the Stephen Harrison I was after because looking at my mother's birth certificate, she was born in Wessington, 3 months later.(in the June 1901). Unfortuneately, I still dont know his Date of Birth, but do know his father is named Thomas. so will keep searching. Thanks again for your help. June

Hi I don't know if this will help, but did Stephen have a middle name because on some of my ancestors they used there first or middle name. Just a thought. Maxine
