Thanks to everyone for replying. I've put in another message on the general board - because didn't realise I'd got all these replies. To Ann who wants to know 'why I'd want one' - because i'm curious - I knew nothing about him - only that he owned a chemist shop. But from his death cert it shows he died from strychnine poisoning. It may be because of his suicide that his son, my grandfather, moved away from Kidderminister to the South of England. Until I obtained the death cert I only knew that he'd died at quite a young age. It was a bit of a surprise to me. kate

The inquest papers on my gt grandfather were destroyed, but because I had the dates of both his death and the inquest on his death cert, I was able to find the newspaper report on microfilm at the local studies library. nell

Would agree with Anne. Go after the newspaper reports. Local newspaper of interest to near where death took place will be in the local library or Record Office but all papers for whole of the British Isles to include Scotland and Ireland are at Colindale London if you are fairly close to London. Google the website. Janet

I didn't even try to get an inquest report. I was at the record office local to the death and searched in the local papers. It was in the first one I looked at in the issue following the inquest date. The way the report was written it was obvious it was more or less exactly what was said during the inquest. The date was 1872! anne

Try firstly to contact the local record office in the area concerned, ask if they have any copy, (I was very fortunate in that, my gt grandfather died in Leicester and the death cert showed an inquest, I first of all `phoned the record office there, and by good fortune, they actually had the report published in the local newspaper of that time-1919-so go ahead and try them first) next, if you an get to Colindale, the newspaper library, and you know the date of the inquest, find the local newspaper for the area concerned amd go through it to see if a report has been made, again I was able to obtain the newpaper report of the inquest held on my late husband`s father (for 1921) full details were in a few of the local papers covering Southend on Sea, copies of the local paper were again available in the record office at Southend on Sea, but also obtained several different copies from various papers at Colindale, and actually one had a photograph of the person plus an added bonus for me, there was also a picture of his second wife, had not known he had another wife, from that info, I then found he had divorced first wife, obtained the copies of the divorce papers from Kew. So quite often fresh details on the person can be obtained from newspaper reports Good luck with your search

You could try contacting the coroners office for that area and ask what records they keep. Quite often inquest papers aren't kept but you might be able to find something in the local paper for that area. If it was an unusual death there may hae been a report in the paper. Also try the county records office as they might have copies. Naomi x
