I have found a couple of ancesters belonging to the same family on the census that have the letters EO after their name, eg: Alice Elizabeth EO. Does anyone know what this could mean? Thanks Darren

Hi Darren Is this on an image or a transcript? There was a very large family of Dos on the 1901 census along with their cousins the Dittos until it was remedied. Could someone have misread a D as an E? Brenda

Hi Brenda, It wason an Image off the Ancestry web site, and is after their name and before surname. its is on 4 out 6 people including the head of the family.

Could they be more initials? I think the census returns were only supposed to put one first name but many give two or more. Obviously there was a limited amount of room for more names. I have a family with a lot of first names and several of them are common to many members of the family of both sexes. Anne

There are 6 on Ancestry 1891 and 5 on 1901. One one of the 1901s is on a beautifully written page (as good as any I have seen) and certainly appears to say Henry Eo. Pickering. Odd.
