Hi, Is it possible to find out details of a birth in India in the 1860s by computer or do I need to try the paper trail? The child has a military father Thanks |

Hi Christine, Try the Family History in India site. I've not visited it for a while, but it's being updated all the time and has lots of info for British military families in Victorian times. http://members.ozemail(.)com(.)au/~clday/index.html Don't forget to remove the brackets. Hope you find something. Cazza |

I found my Great Great Grandfather on this Rootsweb site. For Bengal marriages he was in the army. http://archiver.rootsweb(.)com/th/read/INDIA/2003-12/1071098347 |

Sorry forgot to say I found out he was married twice and they were both on there. I think I ordered through email to the British Library and they were very helpful but it cost £18 for the Certificate. And the good thing is that they can show you what is on the certificate through email and you dont have to order it. |

Have just tried the site mentioned, alas, no help to me, my ancestor was in the 14th Regiment of Foot and was in the East Indies for 15 years, could not find his regiment unfortunately, but must say apart from that, is a very good site, my ancestor was serving from 1804 and most items listed are for a later date, but I`m sure it will prove very helpful for someone having an ancestor serving in India |
