Hi Bernard, In general, there is not the mass of census and BMD data available in Germany, such as there is in the UK. if you enter "german searches" in the search box on "general topics" you will find a thread with all sorts of "german" data and links, including my entry, about this topic. Your best bet is to try GEDBAS and GENEANET (links also on this thread) to see if anybody in Germany is researching your families too. Ther is also a thread on "tips": "German Ancestors (Kohl) Help and ideas" with useful tips. Good luck !

can anyone advise if there is a way of looking at German census info like ''1881 Uk''which is a mine of information?I am trying to link my GGF who left uk in 1874 to come to New Zealand as William Seeling age 34 and who I suspect was German. There are quite a few''Seelings'' in 1871,1881 and 1901 census who were described as UK citizens of German birth!!I even have a ''Julius'' who was Bavarian origin who married a lady called Ellen Turner in Cheltenham and went to the states.[1880 US census]I dont know if he is related but if I can find him in Germany with his ''household''I may find ''William'' too! Thanks in anticipation,I have ''been here'' before--just trying another angle!!
