on the entry for my relative there is a number (6) but it refers to caravan number 6 in the given street. Samantha |

It says the father is a "fish hawker". But surely, having a street no. would be a bit permanent wouldnt it. |

I found a similar entry for my husbands great grandparents (surname James) i know from the entry under 'occupation' that they were a travelling family of gipsy hawkers. Does the occupation for your relative give any clues? Samantha |

I found Great Gran in the 1871 census - looked normal enough, had a street name and no. and then next to the number it said "Caravan". Strange? This was in Bethnal Green by the way, not in the countryside. |
