Hi....does anyone know if familysearch.com is a worthy site....altho i do get info it never seems to match ancestors.co.uk....then i get all confused LOL I prefer ancestors but was wondering which one of the 2 is a better site to use?

All much the same I find. Familysearch is good.

Hi I assume you mean: http://www.familysearch.org/ The 1881 census is pretty good, by all accounts, but suffers from some transcription problems - as you'll see if you read any of the 1881 census threads - or, especially, the "mistranscriptions" thread(s). Some, who've bought the disks, reckon they're better. The IGI is considered pretty reliable where it relates to info from Parish Registers (i.e. mostly baptisms and marriages), but the info posted by individuals is only as good as their research, which may be fine or not very good at all - i.e. consider it possible, but don't rely on it without your own checking. It has some really weird restrictions on what combinations of info you can start with for a search. I can't remember them because they don't make sense to me - I just fall over them when I try. thank you....I just get a little frustrated...names match but dates are 2-3 years out.... really annoying....thanks again for your reply....think i may stick to ancestor.co.uk...unless you have a better site?

thanks againxx what about the places of birth....getting same county but different parishes......have been doing this a little over a month and trraced back to 1861...I hope lol....and that is before i decide to purchase anything lol

Hi - sometimes births and marriages registered in the parish of both the place of birth and the "home parish" of the parent/bride and groom. Not always recorded on day of christening/marriage - but when the registers were updated.Always also look the quater either side of the time you think someone was BM or D. Dates on census returns need to be read with a pinch of salt. Some folk lied or guessed their age. Some of the census returns recorded to the nearest five year age division. Children under the age of ten were referred to as infants - if any reference was made at all and only ages of teenegers were given with single year divisions. Happy hunting...Karen
