my gt grandad is living with his in-laws (Ford family) in 1891 and in the index is transcribed as David Ford instead of David Noakes but his name is correct on the actual page |

When all else fails I grab a pen and write out the surname I'm looking for in old fashioned cursive writting. You'd be amazed at how the letters can appear differently. Also try spelling a name how it may sound phonetically especially if you know your folks came from an area with a strong regional dialect it can change how a name is pronounced. A census enumerator may have written the name how it sounded. Here's some variations you might try. Bruerton Brooerton Breverton Frewerton Sioux |

Hi I get this, but often its because the entry has been mistranscribed. Have you tried variations of his name - Brewer? |

My mothers grandparents on her father's side were married in Camden Town in 1890, but I am having real trouble finding them on the 1891 Census (via Ancestry(.)co(.)uk)............... |
