I've got Family Tree Maker 2005 on order from S&N, but they keep running out and I've been waiting ages! But lots of people on here recommend it, and I've even had a look at a brilliant website that a member has done on it. You can order it from Ancestry(.)com and pay in dollars which would be cheaper. However, in the UK it seems to be around £29, and has loads of very good features. Mandy :)

Hi, there have been a few threads on this in last few weeks. If you enter it in the box above the message board and search it could help you. I have FT2005, had it for about 5 weeks now have added photos, done my own website with it. I am happy with it. Cost about $30 from ancestry.com.

Hi rosemary I use family historian too! There is quite a good user forum on-line and if they release an upgrade existing users can download it for free. If you google family historian you can download a free demo from their website hope you get what you want for christmas... cheers H

Everyone has their own preferences. I have used LEGACY for many years now. You can run it unregistered without all the options being available. There is a very active message board and you often get replies from the company that produces LEGACY. You can always try one program then import the data into a completely different program. The basic information will transfer OK. Martin

Hi Rosemary. I used a few Cheap and cheerful programs for a while then found LEGACY 5 It is I think one of the best genealogy programs around. You can download the basic version from the website free. This will do everything you want to do including adding photos, sounds, and videos and best of all it uses the GEDCOM system so you can transfer your data into it. If you type in LEGACY into your search engine you will get it there. If you want to, you can upgrade to the full programe online for about £11 or £12 pounds, this is what I use. Every so often there is free upgrades available, so it is improveing all the time,I'm not sure if you get the upgrades in the basic version. There is plenty of tutorials in the help section so if you were to get stuck on anything this would show you what to do. All the best, David Gray.
