Another occupation question please

Thanks so much for that John. It does look like 'hewer' now you've said. So much for my 'heaver' eh? I've looked the occupation up and it states, 'mine face worker, hewed or cut the coal' Thanks again!

Sounds similar to the ones referring to Hewers,which is in the mining profession.

My great grandfather was a collier and in brackets it states 'heaver' - well I think that's what it says! Does anyone out there know what his job entailed? Many Thanks!
