John, The BBC are currently running a series called "Who do you think you are". This has generated a vast interest in family trees and the number of certs ordered and the GRO now have a backlog - hence the long time taken to receive your cert. Viv |

do you order your certs "on line" John. , I believe this would work out cheaper than buying a bank draft. What other search facilities do you find in Brisbane as I am running out of websites to check for rellies and at present it will be a while before I can get back to the UK to do some searching. Wish I had taken up this hobby when I lived there as I was only a short distance from Myddleton Street. Grace R |

Yes, I think you are right - I received a typed one with a note saying the original was illegible too. Carole |

Just received a cert from GRO.Submitted 23/10-AM Despatch 29/10-Actual post date on envelope 1/11 Received local mail centre 11/11 Arrived here 12/11(Brisbane in OZ )this is double the time of all others i have ordered so it would seem they are under pressure.Recently there was some discussion about typed & hand written certs,a note in with my cert states: We are committed to providing a good quality product,as certs are produced from original filmed records it is not alway possible to provide the clarity we would wish.I assume from this that if a cert is bad or illegible there is a typed copy not much point in sending something you can't read. Am i correct ? |
