It might be worth keeping an eye on this site: http://www.bl.uk/collections/newspapers.html but I think they're aiming at 19th century. A local paper website from the area would be a possibility. I know ours is increasing its archive stuff. Christine

There may be an obituary in a local newspaper. Some appear weekly, some daily with more than one issue. There may be a single newpaper for the area or several. If you have limited time, you need to know exactly when she died and be satisfied that there was an obituary to make a search worthwhile. Colindale library, the British newspaper library has the best collections for the country, has an online catalogue and is within an easy tube journey of London. But, the system is arcane, the search may be fascinating but fruitless and it will take a huge chunk of your time. If you can get to the relevant local studies library, check first, but they may have both newspapers and electoral rolls. Brenda

Do you know where your grandmother died. If so you could try copies of newspapers in that area at the nearest library to it. Nicky

Can someone assist with some information. I am looking for an obiturary for a great grandmother who died in 1951. I was told the British Library would have copies of news papers for 1951. True or not true. Do electoral lists exist for 1937 or around that time. If so where would be the best place to find. I am in the country for a few days, and this is now my oppurtunity to do some research.
