Hi, Please could anyone tell me where to find a marriage and some births that took place while my gtgtgrandfather was in the army in England. I know where/year the births took place but not the marriage, Thanks, Louise

My understanding is that whether or not in the army he would have a birth or marriage cert as a civilian would, occupation would show that of soldier, I have many such relatives who married prior to overseas postings in 1914/15/16 and have a civilian marriage cert. Also I have one that goes back to 1871 identical to those during WWI. Perhaps a difference procedure applied if born or married whilst based overseas?

Hi Alan It's just that I can't find several births and the marriage and thought it may be registered elsewhere. I'll go and have another look, Thank you for the info, Louise

Louise, There is a book of army and overseas baptisms which used to be exclusively in the Family Record Centre in London but which is now online through 1837. I have used this book and found an army marriage in Ireland as well as finding one baptism in Ireland and two English baptisms back in the 1860's and 1870's. Janet
