As Bobbo says, it's the number of the alteration in that part of the register. I have TWO amendments on one certificate and TWO (successive) numbers in the right margin. |

No think it is the recorded number of the alteration on cert (ie the Deceased crossed out,then his initals,I have a similar number against an alteration on a weddding cert |

I have a death certificate for my great great grandmother. In the column for occupation it says "Widow of Augustus Croft-Confectioner (journeyman) {next word looks like deceas but is croosed out} 15" To the right of the last box it says "fifteen N.C" The N.C. is clearly the registrars initials. Does the 15 mean that she had been a widow for 15 years? (In which case I need to do some re-thinking about when Augustus died!!) TIA Peter Auckland NZ |
