To find which census pieces to search. Go to the National Archives website and search PROCAT for Hackney, 1861 and RG9 Martin

Hello Louise, Found them in 1861 living 13 Upton Rd Hackney Joshua England h age 33 clerk GPO b westbury wilts Martha w age 37 b salisbury wilts Jane looks like Rite?serv age 18 I found them on the partial index,Joshua was Jashua,also the age of Joshua could be 35 as it was blurred. When you start to look earlier, don't forget the Wiltshire BMD site: http://www.wiltshirebmd.org.uk/ It's only got (some) marriages on it at the moment (no births or deaths). Of the marriages, two are for ENGLANDs, but neither looks like yours. Generally these sites are very good (free, and easy to use). Its last update was 19 October. good hunting Christine

Hi Maureen, Thank you for the offer. On the 1871 I'm looking for Joshua England born Wiltshire c1829 living with children (maybe wife) in Glaskin street Hackney. In 1861 I know a daughter was born in 1860/1 called Josephine Annie England in Hackney, but don't know the address, wife's name was Martha England also born Wiltshire. Thanks for your help, Louise

Hello, Hackney is in London 1861c,I have the disks.also you may not find your family on ancestry because of mistranscriptions.If you have an add I can check for you. Best wishes,Maureen

Hi Could anybody tell me which county Hackney would come under in 1861 please. Also why my gtgtgrandfather is missing on the 1871 census for Hackney on ancestry ? Thanks, Louise
