How to find death date of great-great-grandfather?

The Family Records Centre has all registers of deaths up to the present day (I think there's a few months delay on recent ones). They should have uptodate microfiche in libraries and records offices, certainly more upto date than FreeBMD (Ancestry civil registration is taken from FreeBMD anyway). nell

No, he lived in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. We'll go there next year, I'm quite excited about it. Maybe I'll find something out when I'm there. I can check out the graveyard there, for example. Best regards, Heike

Hi and thanks for your help. I went to BMD, but they only seem to have data until 1903 or something (maybe because of this 100-year-ban on publishing data?). I'm not in England, so I can't go to a library there, unfortunately. But next year we'll travel to England, partly for research purposes (and partly because it's a fab country :-), so that will be an option I'll keep in mind. Thanks and best wishes, Heike

Sorry BMD don't go further than 1910 and is rather patchy before that. Your best bet if you can is to go to a Central Library that has the GRO's fiche files. Birmingham Central Library has entries right up to a few years ago but its rather time consuming especially if you have no idea of years. Other suggestions previously have been to go to the LDS FHC but my local one only had up to 1903 which was no use to me. Don't know if you can order later ones.

Have you tried FreeBMD site?

Dear all, thanks to this fabulous website I found out the name and some data of/about my great-great-grandfather. One date I haven't found yet is the date of his death. Can anybody advise me on how to proceed best with finding it? On the free ancestry, the civil registry seems to exclude any dates after about 1910 and apparently he died later. I don't want to spend a fortune on 1837 because I have no idea about the time frame I should start looking. So any advice here is greatly appreciated, especially as I'm not so familiar with the UK way of how and where records were kept and can be found. Best regards, Heike
