How do I trace a 'criminal' ?

Mary - the local records office should have details of the court sessions (quarter sessions) - assuming of course he was caught and tried! Will also give sentence and any witness statements. Sheila x

I don't know where Spratton is, but the nearest local records office should have further details of this heinous crime! nell

Try the Black Sheep Index, you might find something on there. It has some information on people convicted of crimes.

I just might have a bit of a 'character' in my treebut need to know moreabout him. His name is Samuel Pendered, of Spratton and he was convicted at Spratton in 1816 for the theft of ale from a R. Rogers (have some Rogers in my tree as well!). Is there a site for details of this sort ? Sorry its very vague but its all I;ve got to go on Thanks Mary
