wedding reports in local papers

thanks for your reply nell - I've a feeling weddings may be more reported in rural areas- where I come from (Lincs) every single one was there - I don't think you were considered properly married unless your piccy was in the Standard. The one I'm most interested in is in Tynemouth, Northumberland in 1917 and I suppose there were more important things for the papers to write about at that time - I hadn't thought about the paper shortage either.

Angela I think it may depend on when and where. There are certainly events in the Jewish Chronicle in the 19th century. Of course your relatives may not have put a notice in the local paper. Another thing is - during WW1 was there a paper shortage, because that might affect how much space they had. nell

Does anyone know when local papers started reporting on weddings? And when did they start publishing photos? I just wonder if it's worth my while hunting in old papers for reports of family weddings during WWI and thereabouts.
