Hi Bill I have checked Jan 1878 - Jun 1879, no sign of him. You really need an 1891 to find him. If he was really born in Paddington, just bear in mind that the Grand Union Canal ran from Paddington to this area, I use to walk it as a child, so reg district could be Uxbridge, Hillingdon. Pancras etc His age must be wrong on the census. Best wishes Amanda

Thanks Jonathon,i do belive that is my John,but the trouble im having is how can i get a birth certificate for him as he doesnt seem to show on 1837 or ancestry.co.uk ??Carol,i sent off for the John you mentioned thinking it might be my one,but no luck!

William, I have found a John Drinkwater in Sep 1881 Islington 1b 311 My London geography isn`t very good so may not be the right one.

I have checked 1837online for 1880 and 1881 and there is no John Walter Drinkwater registered anywhere in those two years. The age on the marriage certificate is probably wrong. Most of my family gave the wrong age on marriage certificates. Kath. x

Does that mean he wouldnt show up on 1837 then? How would i be able to get a certificate or does that mean he wasnt registered? Thanks,Bill

1. I tried looking for a John Walter Drinkwater birth on Ancestry civil reg - only one, born miles away in 1898, so not your man. 2. I tried finding George Drinkwater on the 1881 census to see if your John was born then, or not. Couldn't find either of them. 3. Checked the IGI - Paddington baptism registers don't go up to 1880s online, I'm afraid. nell

Have you tried free bmd, or ukbmd? not sure if this will help, just a thought. I have family in the same placeam having problems with mine.

William, The info on the census is not always correct. Perhaps he was born in Paddington but the birth was registered in another part of London....a neighbouring district ?

Hi there,im pretty new to the family tree game and need some advice/help.I have a wedding certificate for my great-grandfather from 1900 giving his name as JOHN WALTER DRINKWATER(carman)19 living at 5 GOODSON RD WILLESDEN,father GEORGE DRINKWATER(labourer).On 1901 census JOHN(20) is living at 65 DENBIGH RD WILLESDEN with his wife MABEL.It states John was born in PADDINGTON on 1901 census,but i just cant find any record of his birth on 1837online,can anyone direct me as to where else i could find his birth date/certificate??
