Does any one know if there are any records of Clock/Watchmakers? My grandfather x3 was a Clock/Watchmaker (Journeyman) in the Clerkenwell area of London c1840/1860. Where would I find any records if they exsist please? Also his father was a silk ribbon weaver, would this have been done in the home? Thanks for any help. Marianne.

here are a few possibilities (have you tried googling at all?) - don't forget to remove any asterisks... http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/default.htm http://www.nationalarchivist.*com/ http://www.a2a.org.uk/ http://www.historicaldirectories.org/ http://www.britishorigins.*com/ http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/corporation/family-research/ If you have a good browse amongst these - some are pay-as-you-go if you want any info in depth - you ought to find something useful. good hunting!
