i have found what i think is my g g grandfather and family on the 1901 census,what do i need to obtain birth and marriage certificates can anyone help please

You now need to find the GRO index references so that you can order certificates. You will have a rough idea of their ages from the census, so either look at FreeBMD or 1837online (which is pay per view). These will then give you the references you need. Mandy :)

You might find info on the local BMD site - if there is one. http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/ is a site which the links for all the local sites so far plus lots of other useful genealogy links - census and suchlike. Some of the local sites are very good, as far as they go (like FreeBMD, not complete yet). You can actually get a proper match of names for a wedding cert, for instance, before you order it, and the (local) reference acts as a link to a partially-completed application form for you to print off, complete and post off with the (standard) fee. It's just as quick as GRO-online, in my experience. good hunting! Christine
