As far as I am aware, full age was then 21years old and not the 18 it is now. Thanks for the Cordwainer answer that explains some other things around the same family.

Ive got these probs of my own and I dont know the answer unless its another girl or she lied! I just wanted to add that a cordwainer is another name for a bootmaker so he would be in same occupation.

New Brickwall! (well new to you, unfortunately not to me). I have a family of TOTHERICKs, almost all of whom are called James, Jane, William or Henry and some of whom make me want to give up! Today I will tell you about Jane Ann TOTHERICK. She was born in 1843, Cowpen, Blyth Northumberland, father James (b. 1817 occupation at one time, Shoemaker). I have her marriage certificate to Joseph EMMERSON in 1861 at St Nicholas Newcastle. Certificate states that she is of full age. (which I believe to be 21) and father as James, Shoemaker although by this time he was a Cordwainer. I then have her marriage certificate (fathers name and earlier occupation match) 8 years later to Archibald ERSKINE at St Andrews Newcastle but she had only aged 4 years as her age is shown as 25! It also states her surname is still TOTHERICK and that she was a spinster! Can't find Joseph's death, can't find her under either name in 1871 census in Newcastle or Blyth (where she came from), can't find her death under either name. Unusual surname, elusive lady! Any tips? Eileen
