Nichola I've rung up the day before and haven't had any problems so you don't have to plan too far ahead. Good luck with your search. Andrea

Hello Nichola It's no longer at County Hall but in it's own building on Malpas Road. There's a piccy and map link on the webpage. I have been to the office several times and it's never been full. (Saying that it would be, now that I've told you it wouldn't be). You still need to book but I only book the day before usually. I guess that they have their regulars and so some days are busier than others. The staff are very helpful The telephone number is 01609 777585. Mon, Tues, Thur 09.00-4.45 Wed 9.30-8.45 Fri 09.00-4.15 I agree with Andrea that I think it is nicer than Durham's room. The staff are very helpful Shelly

Hi Andrea, Is it difficult to get an appoint at short notice or do you have to book well in advance. Nicky

Nicola, I was there a few weeks ago and I found absolutely loads and knocked down a few brick walls. I'm hoping to go back in a couple of weeks because I had only booked for the afternoon and I ran out of time so I am going to go for the full day. It also has very easy to use machines which I think are definitely superior to the ones at Tyne & Wear and Durham. You can't take files or anything in but they let you take all of your papers in wallets unlike Durham who don't let any plastic wallets in. Good luck Andrea

Hi Nichola, I don't know whether it has changed in 30 years. Knowing the characteristics of Yorkshire people I suspect that they will give you as much help as they can. (If I can say that without being Politically Incorrect). Jim

From putting together bits of information I have got my family tree back to 1702. Im hoping that by visting the records office I can obtain proof and find out about there actual lives. Did you find it easy tracing the information you needed.

Back in the 1970s I was there looking for the Askrigg parish registers. By closing time I had pushed my Father's line back 300 years. I then drove up Wensleydale and spent the night at a 14th Century Inn in Bainbridge. Wow. Good hunting jim
