The named person (A E Ayres) arranged the burial and they worked at the hospital. I found out what it meant when I asked my Aunt about my Grandfathers Death Certificate. Apparently the person named on his was his girlfriend and she arranged the funeral and the address that she lived was underneath. Sheila

Just received a death certificate today (still not sure if its the right one) which under signature, description of informant has: "E A Ayres causing the body to be buried London Hospital E1" Also in the place for occupation has where he had resided. Any ideas what this meant?

Does anybody know if there is a website for the cemetries office or where they are based. Cheers Nicky

My g.g.grandmother's Will had a stamp on the back with 'Woodgrange Cemetery' and a date on it (which I assume is a burial date), so it might be worth trying to get hold of a Will. Natalie

No but the cemetries office should be able to find it for you if you know the date of death or burial it helps if you know the cemetry as all graves are registered

No a death certificate only tells you when they died and the cause of death. The local paper for that year may have a notice of the death and sometime there are details of the funeral and who attended and who sent flowers Bren

No a death certificate can't tell you where thay are buried. The death cert needs to be issued prior to the burial/cremation. However, local cemeteries will check for a burial within a short time after the date of death. Usually this will be close to the address they resided before death although occasionally the deceased would be brought 'home' by other family. Beth :)
