Hi, I know I shouldn't laugh at this but I can just picture the scene. It happened in 1878 - if Oscars were given out then............... ANOTHER ASSAULT CASE – William Edmunds, painter, was charged with assaulting his wife, Charlotte Edmunds, on the 26th ult. Complainant said that her husband went out on Christmas morning, having had a few words. She saw nothing of him until the next evening, when he came into her daughter’s house and aimed a blow at her head with a stick, but instead of that it hit her on the knee, and by its force was broken. He also struck her about the arm. Defendant said that his wife was of a bad temper, and he was of the same disposition. Complainant, crying, said – “Gentlemen, if you knew what I have suffered these 35 years. I have had thirteen children, and no one knows how I have been treated.” William and Charlotte were my 2xgt grandparents. Gwynne

On gggrandmother Janet Collin’s poor relief application she was described as being “much given to drink”. She left the poorhouse one time because she “refused to have her haircut”

I think it's time for more "Most Amusing" threads. Anyone got any ideas? In the meantime lets add this one. Have your ancestors been recorded in any documents such as quarter sessions, newspapers and wills because of their daft behaviour or petty crimes?
