Seal is a village on the A25 about 2.5 miles east of Sevenoaks. The name Moyce was quite common there.

Darren James Moyce 18 of Seal, Kent is single and living at home with his parents in 1891. In 1901 he appears to be married to Adelaide or Fanny: Adelaide Moyce 30 Bucks ... Croydon Croydon Ellen Moyce 26 Kent Seal Croydon Croydon Domestic Servant Ernest Moyce 18 Kent Seal Croydon Croydon Pill Factory Fanny Moyce 31 Kent Seal Croydon Croydon Laundress James Moyce 3 Kent Sevenoaks Croydon Croydon James Moyce 28 Kent Seal Croydon Croydon Gardener Robert Moyce 61 Kent Sevenoaks Croydon Croydon Gardener All of these are on the same census page - Robert was his father in 1891, Ellen a sister and Ernest a brother. His mother in 1891 was Martha (49). It looks as if he may have married in the late 1890s.

Thanks, There first child was called Sarah. The only thing possible contradicting this is on the 1901 census, James Moyce 28, Kent Seal, Croydon, Gardener . What and where is Kent Seal? and should I go ahead and order the Marriage certificate from the information i have from Free BMD? Thanks

The transcription of that page is not yet complete, lacking a woman's name. Yes, I would think Polly was Mary. Check the 1891 census to see if you can find who Nicholas Cock was living with. EDIT: In the 1891 census, James Moyce (Coal wharf clerk) 23 has a wife Mary Ann and a daughter Sarah 2, all born Rotherhithe. Nicholas Cock is married to Ellen (they also have a 2yo daughter).

After doing a search on Free BMD for A James Robert Moyce who married a Polly, I cam up with the odd number of three, can someone explain who married who? Also I think Polly is short for Mary, is it short for any other names?
