Has anyone sent for an irish cert?

I haven't had to get any Irish certificates before so haven't a clue how to do it. I've been asked to get some Irish certificates for a friend but probably validations will do. I've got two dates of birth which I think will be ok. However another is a recent birth 1950's with possible surnames and christian names and only a rough idea of the year. Any advice please about what to do. Thanks

Hi Pat, I might just do that. I know who has it, but everytime I ring them it's always an inconvenient time! I'll have to pluck up the courage! Best wishes Paula

Paula, If they have got it hound them for it, much easier than going through the Irish GRO. Pat x

Hi Carol and Pat, Thank you both for the advice. I think I'll send for a copy and hope for the best! Why do these irish rellies have to be so damned difficult. The worst thing is, I'm pretty sure someone in the family has the original cert! Thanks again Paula

Mine are A4 size, so it must be the certificates I got. I now have the marriage certificate and the bride is ok, I have an age so know roughly when she was born. The problem is the groom and I am stuck with a DUFFY of full age.

Wifey what little advice I can give you I will try and explain, I hope it does not sound too complicated having to write it down It is so difficult making sure you have the right person to begin with, when sending this money for a cert or photocopy the bestter of the two ask for a photocopy. A photocopy is about the size of 1/4 of an A4 page (ie what is written in the original certs. small but with ALL the info of the Certificate. Because the Irish Records index do not include proper areas, you are better off to buy a photocopy rather than a cert so you can see the exact area the person was registered in, and then and only then you will know if its the right person, there is NO MORE ON A CERT than this photocopy, if you pay for a cert and its wrong its too much money down the drain to keep going, remember the first and second names can be very very common in the same area so you may have a lot of alternative entries for births deaths and marriages. Hope this helps if not mail me Wilfey and I will try and explain more. By the way it takes at least THREE WEEKS to receive the photocopy or cert, and I have been astonished and annoyed at people complaining about the GRO in Stockport who can get the stuff out 3-5 days???? Good Luck, Pat x

I have a couple of certs from Ireland, I think I have the certs and not photocopies but not too sure, as it was a while ago.

I've just looked at the GROireland site, and don't know whether to send for a certificate (6.98euros) or a photocopy (1.90 euros) Are they both the same? Anyone with any experience?
