Thanks Christine, I found the site, but would you believe it the historical maps part is closed for maintenance! Will try tomorrow. I think it must be a school as there are a head and teachers named ,plus lots (I mean lots) of boys. Even if my name is not there I want to know now. Jean Thanks Dave, I will try that number tomorrow, Thanks for all the help. Jean

Hi When I've seen "cottage" as the residence for lots of people, I've simply assumed that there were lots of cottages and the enumerator din't think it worth distinguishing one from t'other, except by the introduction of a new "head of household" from time to time. If you want to know where it is - I did set up a "how to find" thread. Don't know whether it's still recoverable, though. There's a direct link between the current Ordnance Survey get-a-map page and the old-maps website of 19th century maps. If you use that, you get straight to the same area as you've found with the modern map site. Christine

Thanks Carol, looks as though I will have to make trip to Aylesbury for further info. Couldn't see any reference to the 'Cottage'. It must have been quite big, several sheets on the census form for 1881. This is one man (boy) i have been chasing for some time. Not sure even if this is the right one but thought it worth looking into. Thanks for the reply Jean

Is there anyone with knowledge of Taplow history? I found a name in the 1881 census and the address appears to be a school. It just gives the address as COTTAGE, TAPLOW. Lots of 12 years olds. Anyone with any ideas? Hopefully, Jean
