For the last 2 years iv been looking for my grt grt gradfathers birth records. I have his death certificate his marridge and on three census returns 1871 1881 1891 all leads back to hanley 1865 i have his brothers birth as well but he doesnt seem to have lived very long.Idont know were else to look has anyone got any suggestions.Gill Bailes

Gillian If you have checked freeBMD, Ancestry 1837online & cannot find him maybe he was not registered at birth like my great grandfather and his aunts. It seems it happened quite a lot, I also heard not all the 1837 is complete for some reason or another, its there any chance you could check the Records for Hanley locally yourself? Sorry its not very helpful. Pat x

Thanks for your reply iv decided he was beemed down by a space ship age 6.Iv tried local and general reg.All the parish records in hanley 1837 on line and nothing.lds as well,Thanks gill

Gillian, I know how it feels, but I moved on from my great grandfather to his grandparents and have now got back to the great grandparents, I have not found great grandfathers birth just marriage, I still have found his death either??? but I am sure I will at some stage. Good Luck Pat x

He might not have been baptised or had his birth registered, but hopefully he went to school. If the registers survive, these might give a date of birth for you. Brenda
