Michele, I am a regular user of scotlandspeople.gov.uk (don't confuse it with scotlandspeople.co*.*uk which is a very interesting site but not the Scottish Records Office!), being Scottish born, and find it very, very easy to use to search for ancestors. The search fees are modest - 6 pounds to purchase 30 credits, then you use 1 credit per page to view search results, then a further 5 credits to view a particular extract. These extracts can then be downloaded onto your computer. I am establishing an archive of my direct tree, so usually purchase copies of the extracts for my archive, but with the download facility, that's not necessary if you can't afford it. Certificates cost 10 pounds each if you wish to purchase them. Good luck. Ed

Hi all, I need some help with my scottish line please. My 2X Gt Grandad James Macaulay was born in Scotland about 1830 (City of Forfar acording to the 1871 census), his father was also James, I have found a James Macaulay on the IGI with a father as James in about 1831 in Angus and am unsure whether he could be mine as i'm unsure about the actual whereabouts of Forfar. His ages vary, I have his ages as 1861 - 29 1871 - 40 1881 - 49 Any help would be much appreciated as I'm unsure where to go from here as regards to finding his parents. Many Thanks Michele
