Roger Vuaghan's website at http://www.rogerco.freeserve(.)co.uk - remove brackets after freeserve - should be of some assistance to you. You might also get a few clues on dress during the Victorian and Edwardian eras from my own site, AncestralPast, at http://uk.geocities(.)com/ancestralpast - don't forget to remove those brackets again. Good luck David

Thanks for your reply, I'll keep all your comments in mind about friends and neighbours, etc and richness of the families- Thanks. The picture that is puzzling me the most is one of known Enderbys and known Waggs(Albert Enderby married Frances Wagg, and she and her mother, and Albert's parents are on the photo), outside what looks like a marquee/tent type thing, with unknown people on it. It must be after 1887, as that is when Albert was born, but that's pretty much all i can suss out so far! Nicola

There are books on this - I'm too tired now, but I will look out the titles and post them soon. Bear in mind that because people are photographed together it doesn't mean that they were all related - they could be friends/neighbours. The library will have books on fashion to give you clues about clothing and hairstyles. Also, poorer people wore less fashionable/more dated clothing than richer ones. nell

My Grandma gave me a bunch of photos in the summer holidays, of her husbands ancestors, which we went through together to try and identify the people that she recognised. Unfortunately, she didn't know who everyone was, and I would love to find out!! Do any photo experts know how to identify characteristics, clothing, etc, of certain eras, so that I can try and figure out who they could be?! I've tried looking for family resemblances, and working out logically who would be on a photo with people that I recognise, but it hasn't got me very far. Any advice is gratefully received!! Thanks, Nicola
