there's only one GRO index. The images you've been looking at on 1837online are scans of the same films they've got at the library, which are photographs of the same books they've got at the FRC

Just to reinforce the idea - the Local Register Offices have info that's closer to the source documents, so may well be a better source that GRO - if you know which Office. As you have quite a lot of relevant detail, I'd go for the Local Office if it's within range. good hunting! Christine

As you know the church, the Register office should be able to help you. I believe they log marriages by location so need to know where to search.

Hi Gwyneth - well, my dad's birth cert has them under the married name - but who can say - seems to be a bit of a secret as his younger sis failed to give me that info :(( They were married in St Peters Church which is apparently in the centre of Brighton, and that's as much as I know for definite. Have since found a number for Brighton Ref Library which apparently has GRO indexes from 1837 - 1992, so will try calling them tomorrow. Cheers :))

Could it be later than March 1932? We have birth certificates suggesting by the wording that the parents were married, whereas we know that came later..... OR It may have been registered in the Brighton area within the time you say, but the record not transferred to GRO. Do you know which area of Brighton, church or register office is most likely? There may be someone going to Lewes? record office who could look it up if there are enough clues.

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy Report 27 Oct 2004 17:20

A quick question before I pop out this eve .... I am trying to trace the marriage of my fathers parents. We know they were married in Brighton - and we have just discovered it was after the birth of his eldest sister, but before his birth (judging by his birth cert) - so we know it was between April 1930 and March 1932. I have searched this whole period on the 1837 site without success - so where do I go now?? Brighton & Hove City Library has a link for 'local and family historians' to the Brighton History Centre - would they be able to give me any information if I contacted them, does anyone know? I've never visited the FRO in London and I'm not in a position to until the new year. Any ideas please? Thanks :))
