Hi Sylvia The IGI records are taken from parish records The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has people searching them all the time. trouble comes when they can't read the records properly thats when mistakes happen but mostly they are pretty good. You could go to one of their history liberies and search the IGI, National records and 1881 census all free. But you do have to make an appointment. Regards Maureen

Sylvia The IGI is as reliable as anything else - mistakes occur in it just like any other information. Information submitted to the Ancestral File on LDS is much less certain. Use the IGI as what it is - an index that points you to a particular parish. You really need to check the original parish register to confirm details. Parish registers are generally on microfilm at local records offices. Nell

Does anyone know how reliable the LDS records are that coming under the "sealings for the dead" please. I've found a very likely family going back to 1800 in Scotland...is it worth pursuing them? The time is right, the parents are right, the place is right, there are 2 brothers I didn't know about and no mention of the daughter I have. What do you think? Sylvia
