Help! What's happened to Ancestry??

Hi Can anyone tell me what has happened to Ancestry? Yesterday when i used it and also today when I used it from work, when I searched for a person from the search page, it came up with the results like '1901 census - 112 found' '1891 census - 100 found' 'Cilivil Regsitration 1837-1983 - 115 found' and so on. Now I get a massive list of thousands of names with stars on the left hand side to indicate how good a match to my name they are! They are not sorted into censuses or anything and it is throwing up anyone with the same surename and totally disregardingthe christian name that I enter! Anyone got any ideas what i have done and how I can get it back to how it was before? Thanks Sam |

Have you got it on Best Matches(Ranked)?or Exact Matches only? when you have it on Best matches,it shows the names the way you described Ive not explained that too well lol. On your home page ,if it is on best ranked,the search box will be yellow instead of the normal blue There should be a tab at the top of the search box to change between best and exact matches Anna :-) |

Hi Sam, I have only just joined and thats the page that came up for my. Is it usually different? I didn't expect a lot of names like that. Will try again tomorrow and hope it gives me more info. Jean. |

I think it must be having a funny turn! A few days ago this happened to me, and I had a panic because I had this enormous list of names - the whole search thing looked completely different. But last night it had gone back to normal (well for me anyway!). Mandy :) |

Anna Thanks very much, you were right! It was on 'Best Matches' (which it says is new) and not 'exact matches'. I don't know how I got it onto the wrong one but was even considering cancelling my subscription because I thought they had changed the website and I could't find anyone without trawling through hundreds of names!
