Oh Elaine, you are hard! Now Tracy. Your grandfather was either your Mum or your Dad's Dad. You know their names, get their marriage certificate which is indexed in the Family Record Centre in Myddleton Street, Islington, London. They have all the forms to enable you to order the certificate. The Staff are very helpful, if you can get there you should have no problems. If your Mum and Dad were not married things maybe a little more difficult but persist with the questions, I am sure people will help you in the answers.

Rather than start with what you don't know start with what you do know.. No one will tell you this obsession is easy... Begin with a clean sheet of paper and start with yourself - your parents etc..and be prepared to spend a little money as sooner or later you will need to buy birth, marriage and possibly death certs to confirm your findings. There are lots of usefull links on this site and on the web to get you started - Good Luck ~:0)

Hi Tracy, suggest you delete 4 of the 5 messages! Have you no living rellies that can help you? If not, and I'm afraid it costs, you can get info from 1837 site. Google it to get address. What sort of dates are you talking about? If he was alive in 1901 then the census is a great help. Also Google for address. There on my fav. so dont remember off hand Best of luck Jeanie

Your parent's marriage certificate will name both grandfathers. Search 1837online for their marriage reference and then follow the links to order the certificate. Tip: search for the least common of the parent's surname, ie if your parents were surnamed Brown and Zog, search for the marriage under Zog! The index will provide the spouse's surname so you can verify it is the correct cert. Often if the father of one of the spouses is dead, it will say spo on the cert which may help you narrow down your granddad's date of death.

GenesReunited doesn't make it obvious, but there are actually a whole lot of useful links and bits of info if you look lower down on your Home page. They have titles like "getting started". It'll reinforce what the others have already said, and it'll give you a few more ideas... But do come back to the Tips board. People here have helped me a lot with Look-ups and things like that. good hunting! Christine
