Christine Many records before the 1st WW are not in any sort of order, the only way sometimes to see where he was and what he was doing is to find the muster roll (pay roll to us) it may take a bit of digging if you don't know the regiment. Are there any births in the family that would have been while he was in the Army, this should give his regiment, as least an idea. Something like 60th of foot etc. Kew may take more than 2 visits to understand how they work. Every time I go (and thats not much) its like starting at the beginning again. But then I am getting older and it take a while for things to sink in. There is lots of information up there is just trying to find what you want. Irene

I Googled "Woolwich barracks 1884", and there were quite a few hits. I think you would need to know the regiment he was in or Battalion.

Hi, the usual answer I get to a question like that is....go to Kew. I have no idea where Kew is........except that it is in England & I'm not. So sorry, I can't help. There are some sites about the military tho..I'll see if I can find them

Am just wondering if there would be any lists of names anywhere, of soldiers who were at Woolwich Barracks, Gt. Grandfather was there from about 1884, and later went to serve in India. Thought somewhere might have records!...
