Thats a good idea Nell. I like the fact that you can copy the description of the town or village that was written in the Gaztter mid 1800's. It really puts 'meat' on your records rather than them being just a list of names.

Jeanie There's so much info on genuki that it can be daunting at first. But I highly recommend a good browse around. It has registration districts, potted histories, extracts from historial directories, census abstracts, population statistics and so much more, plus lots of links to other sites for all matters genealogical. A tip: because its sometimes hard to find the right page, I have made several pages "Favourites", so as well as having the Genuki homepage as a fave, I also have the page giving registration districts, and various county pages too. Saves time. Nell

There is a lot of info on there Jeanie. Its just knowing how to navigate the hierarchy, best to start at homepage, then to country, then to county. I have found some very helpful things on there.

When I started this malarky a year ago, I popped in to GENUKI but found it too confusing. However, having recently rediscovered it I have had some great finds. Husband found grandfather on the free census of Gloucester. Tonight I have found in a Trade Directory in Middlesbrough, not only my Gt.X2 Uncle and the pub he ran, this info I had before but nice to see it confirmed. I have also found that his father in law also owned a pub and some other business besides. I know it depends on luck, theres no trade directory for another relli who ran a pub but if you plug away it is astonishing what you may find. Maps, photoes of churches or even streets. HAVE A GO CHAPS.
