Would the only way to get the information be to go to the Berkshire Records Office? Thanks, Nicola

Berkshire newspapers should be in the local records office. Nell

Hi Nesta, I don't know where about in Berkshire he would be, as his family seemed to move around a bit, so i don't know what paper to look under! Does anyone know how i can find berkshire newspaper articles? Thanks, Nicola

Would the death of a policeman, while on duty, been reported in local newspapers? If you know the area that he worked in, I am sure that you might get some information about him from them, which would help with finding a death certificate. Nes

Hi Christine, Thanks for posting, i'm off to look at the other threads that you mentioned! I don't know of anything to do with his Service Records, and i presume that he was in the police force in Berkshire, as his family is there on each census from 1881-1901. Thanks for your help, i'll see what i can find from links on other sites, Nicola

Hi Is there any info from his police service record which could narrow down the search for date and place? If you know which Police body he was in, they may well have info. The City of London was very helpful in giving me info about my great-uncle who was a City Constable (per the 1881 census) and were also able to put me in touch with the Surrey Police Museum in Guildford - he'd served with the Surrey Police (twice!) before joining the City Police. The Surrey record even included details about his appearance - which, somehow, brought the story a life it hadn't had before. If you put "police" into the Thread-search there are some threads with useful links. Christine

Hi, Yes, I trawled through about 10 years, that's how I found the first certificate. I'm currently going through the other 20 years to see if it's there, but it seems that if it was, then the records office at Southport would have found it when they searched for me. I'm all out of ideas of what to do! Nicola

A while ago, i tried to find the death of my grandmother's grandfather, a policeman, who died whilst on duty. I ordered the certificate for the man that i thought was him, but it turned out not to be, and so I rung up the records office in Southport and they conducted a search for me to find other deaths of the same name. It was unsuccessful, and i am no closer to finding his death. My grandma is not very interested in genealogy, but this one person interests her, so i'd really love to find his death- does anyone have any idea as to how to find him? He was alive on the 1901 census, (born in Berkshire around 1850)and my grandma lived with her grandma, who was widowed by then, from about 1930. Thanks in advance, Nicola
